The announcement of a new venue comes just months after unveiling its Shanghai space
The UCCA Centre for Contemporary Art has announced Chengdu as the site of its fourth venue. The Beijing-based gallery already has spaces in Beidaihe and Shanghai – the latter opened earlier this year.
The Chengdu space will be part of International Art Island, the Art Newspaper reports – an arts hub which will also contain a concert hall for the China Philharmonic Orchestra and a museum dedicated to the artist Ye Yushan.
UCCA director Philip Tinari said: ‘Chengdu is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing cities in China and we have been closely following its development and accomplishments in the arts in recent years.’
UCCA Edge opened in Shanghai in May, housed across three levels of the newly constructed EDGE tower in the city’s Jing’an commercial district.
UCCA also has plans to create a new space ‘U2 by UCCA’ in partnership with Young Talent Media in a Beijing shopping centre.
