A ten-strong team of curators has been announced to lead the next edition of the OFF-Biennale in Budapest.
The event was initiated as a grassroots ‘garage biennale’ in 2014, countering what it terms the country’s existing ‘centralized, party-loyal art infrastructure with dubious professional standards.’
The fifth edition will feature Nikolett Erőss, Rita Kálmán, Eszter Lázár, Edit Molnár, Veronika Molnár, Kata Oltai, Lívia Páldi, Hajnalka Somogyi, Borbála Soós, Katalin Székely organising shows throughout the Hungarian capital under the collective theme of ‘security’.
‘An instinctive need and a fundamental right for all of us; and yet, despite the heated political debates surrounding it and the growth of the security services industry, it is becoming increasingly out of reach for the majority,’ the group said of the curatorial framework.
The exhibition will open on 1 May and run until 15 June.
