The 14th edition of the Taipei Biennial, titled Whispers on the Horizon and curated by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, will explore the many dimensions of yearning: a force that stretches across time and geography, existing in a suspended, in-between space between memory and imagination. The exhibition will feature 54 international artists and 33 newly commissioned works.
The theme takes inspiration from three Taiwanese literary and cinematic objects that serve as markers of memory: a puppet from Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s 1993 film The Puppetmaster, a diary from Chen Yingzhen’s 1960 short story My Kid Brother Kangxiong and a bicycle from Wu Ming-Yi’s novel The Stolen Bicycle. The exhibition will expand beyond Taiwan to explore yearning as a persistent and universal feeling.
The biennial will take place from 1 November 2025 to 29 March 2026 at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum.
