Myriam Ben Salah has been appointed director and chief curator of the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago. From mid-September, Ben Salah will take over from Solveig Øvstebø who has been in the position since 2013, becoming the museum’s third director since 1973.

The Tunisian curator and writer was previously at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris leading the special projects and public programmes. As a curator, Ben Salah has organised exhibitions at Lazaar Foundation, the Beirut Art Center, Kadist and Kunsthalle Stavanger. Most recently she co-organised Made in LA. 2020 at the Hammer Museum and The Huntington Library.

President and director of the Art Institute of Chicago James Rondeau welcomed Ben Salah saying, ‘At the Renaissance Society, she will bring her singular curatorial vision, drawing on an international experience and a decompartmentalized approach to art making. She will pursue at the Ren, through exhibitions and public programs, her work with emerging artists and experimental practitioners in Chicago and beyond.’
