San Art, an independent non-for-profit gallery space and reading room based in Ho Chi Minh City, are hosting an online fundraising auction through the online auction house Paddle8.com. Established in 2007 to make up for a lack of cultural resources and opportunities for contemporary artists in Vietnam, San Art is now in a ‘very fragile state’, its co-founder Dinh Q Le reveals, and is hoping to raise enough funds to maintain their activities, which throughout the years, have come to encompass the production of curated exhibitions, an artist-in-residency programme, guest lectures, artist talks and workshops.

Going live from 4–18 December, this ‘exhibition-as-online auction’ titled Thresholds of Motion will feature works donated by a cross-section of contemporary Vietnamese artists including Lena Bùi, Tiffany Chung and Phunam, as well as works by Cambodian artist Khvay Samnang, Kabul-based painter Khadim Ali, and American artist Tammy Nguyễn – all of whom have worked with the organisation over the years.

Auction estimates will range from $500 for a series of six C-print photographs by Vietnamese artist Trần Minh Đức, to $12,500 for Collision: Urban Sporty Mover, a new work by the Ho Chi Minh City and Los Angeles-based art collective The Propeller Group.

For a full list of works, see the online exhibition catalogue of ‘Thresholds of Motion’.

To bid at the auction, sign up to paddle8.com.
