The New York City-wide event is scheduled for 12–31 October 2021
Performa, the organization dedicated to live performance by visual artists, will move its next biennial edition (its 9th) to an all-outdoors event this autumn. The event is scheduled to run 12–31 October 2021.
The biennial will include new commissions by Kevin Beasley, Ericka Beckman, Sara Cwynar, Danielle Dean, Madeline Hollander, Andrés Jaque (Office for Political Innovation), Tschabalala Self, and Shikeith. The all-outdoors show has a dedicated focus on New York City, ‘its history, communities, and urban environment’.
‘Performa has always considered the Biennial program as a form of radical urbanism,’ said Performa Founding Director and Chief Curator, RoseLee Goldberg, in a statement.
‘This year, we will continue to explore and extend this notion by shifting our programme to the city’s streets, expanding across its boroughs, and creating bold, innovative actions that celebrate the spirit of the city and explore the urgent social and political questions of our time.’
