White Cube close São Paulo space after three years

White Cube is to close its São Paulo outpost in August, after the three year lease on the gallery building expires, reports Folha de São Paulo. The final show will be by Brazilian-born artist Christian Ros. The gallery was in a fairly inaccessible location, even by São Paulo standards.  Peter Brandt, the co-director of the space, will remain in Brazil representing White Cube, while his colleague Karla Meneghel is leaving. Brazil’s high importation tax, as well as a limited market for the ultra blue chip works that White Cube is known for, are thought to be factors in the closure.
