Kenji Ekuan, 1929–2015

The industrial designer Kenji Ekuan has died. Ekuan’s best known design, the soy sauce bottle, an upside-down funnel shape with a red cap, created for Kikkoman in 1961 is now in MoMA’s collection. In 1957 Ekuan founded GK Industrial Design Associates, which asides the soy sauce bottle, created the Komachi high-speed trains and motorcycles for Yamaha. Ekuan was also a Buddhist monk.
