Robert Mull, dean of the Whitechapel-based Cass Faculty for Art, Architecture and Design has been suspended by the London Metropolitan University, following his opposition to the move of all its faculties to a single location on north London’s Holloway Road campus, BD online reports.

Students and staff say they were shocked by this decision, but the University issued a statement saying Mull will continue teaching and carrying out his duties as professor and director of Architecture. A campaign to save the Cass involved a series of protests and a petition which attracted hundreds of signatures, including David Chipperfield, Richard Rogers and Iwona Blazwick, director of the neighbouring Whitechapel Art Gallery. Opponents say it will destroy the Cass’s unique approach to education which is focused on learning by making and collaboration with local industries.
