William Kentridge has customised a limited series of 111 bottles of wine from the Ornellaia estate for the 10th edition of Ornellaia Vendemmia d’Artista. Part of the bottles will be auctioned by Sotheby’s during a gala at the V&A Museum in London, who will receive the proceeds.

Launched in 2009 by the Ornellaia wine estate in Tuscany, the Ornellaia Vendemmia d’Artista invites an artist to design a series of limited edition labels inspired by the character of a particular harvest, as well as creating a site-specific limited edition for the estate. Kentridge’s labels, realised on pages of old Italian cash books the artist found in flea markets, illustrate the hard labour that goes into winemaking, and grape harvest in particular.

Through their annual charity auction, the project has raised over 2 million euros for museums and foundations internationally, featuring work by artists including Ernesto Neto, Rebecca Horn and Yutaka Sone.
