The Santa Monica Museum of Art (SMMoA) announced today that the institution will be undergoing a change in identity as well as location. The SMMoA, which closed its Bergamot Station location last year, will reopen as the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, in a new site to be renovated by architecture firm wHY in the city’s downtown arts district. Set in a former 12,700sqft (approx. 3,800sqm) garment manufacturing facility, the new home will include 7,000sqft of exhibition space, an ‘experimental kitchen-café’ and a retail store. It’s scheduled to open in Spring 2017.
