The head of Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance, Lukasz Kaminsky, has said that the Polish government is planning the removal and relocation of around 500 Soviet monuments, The Moscow Times reports. Kaminsky, whose organisation investigates crimes against the Polish nation, added that in his view the monuments should have been removed in the early 1990s. The monuments are set to be relocated to museums. The plans will not affect the graves of Soviet soldiers in Poland which will continue to be cared for. The removal of monuments faces strong disapproval from Russia.
