The election for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council saw a record turnout of voters last Tuesday, and the result was a definite win for anti-establishment voices in the arts community, The South China Morning Post reports. Out of 27 seats on the HKADC, 10 are elected every three years by arts organisations and registered members of the arts community. That eight out of ten seats went for anti-establishment candidate reflects the low popularity of the current chief executive Leung Chi-ying, and voters are hoping the outcome could lower the chance of Leung’s reelection as the next chief executive in 2017. On December 11, the ADC members will vote to elect the 15 Council members who represents the culture sector in the chief executive nomination committee.
