The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art is to open a new outpost in St. Peterburg. The Moscow museum, which moved into a new building designed by Rem Koolhaas last year is set to launch a programme of exhibitions on St. Peterburg’s New Holland Island. The historic and artificially triangular island was built in 1719 – originally to house shipbuilding facilities – and has only recently begun to be redeveloped after decades spent in a state of dilapidation. The redevelopment project is backed by Millhouse Capital, founded by Roman Abramovich, whose wife Dasha Zhukova founded Garage.
The first exhibition is entitled Experiences of the Imaginary and features new Russian artists. The show runs through 25 September 2016.
