Oliver Barker and Mario Tavella appointed co-chairmen of Sotheby’s Europe

Sotheby’s has announced that Oliver Barker and Mario Tavella will be joining Philipp Württemberg as cochairmen of the company’s European division. Barker first joined Sotheby’s as a specialist in Impressionist and Modern Art in 1994. In 2001 he transferred to the Contemporary Art department. Mario Tavella has been président-directeur général of Sotheby’s France since January this year, after nearly 25 years specialising in the European furniture department. Barker and Tavella, along with nine other specialists in Sotheby’s, will form part of a newly-instituted European Strategy Board, currently co-chaired by Philipp Württemberg (Europe) and Robin Woodhead (International).
