Freelands Artist Programme announces winners

The Freelands Foundation has announced the list of winning institutions that have been selected for the newly established Freelands Artist Programme (FAP). A visual arts funding programme that will provide £1.5 million to support national institutions that wish to promote new talent, FAP aims to strengthen arts practices outside of London by encouraging collaboration between 80 emerging artists and art organisations located across the UK during a five-year period.

The winning institutions are:
G39, Cardiff, Wales
PS2 (Paragon Studios / Project Space), Belfast, Northern Ireland
Site Gallery, Sheffield, England
Talbot Rice Gallery, The University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland

The programme will provide funding to these institutions for five years, each receiving an annual programming budget of £25,000, plus an annual grant of £5,000 per participating artist. Over this period, each of he four institutions will present the works of 20 artists. The institutions will also receive support for a group exhibition in London, as well as funding for an annual symposium at which each organisation will participate.

The selection panel for the Freelands Artist Programme comprised of: Freelands Foundation Founder and Chair, Elisabeth Murdoch; Simeon Barclay, artist; Sacha Craddock, curator and writer; Polly Staple, director of Chisenhale Gallery and Mark Wallinger, artist.

The Freelands Foundation will continue it’s annual £100,000 Freelands Award which supports a mid-career female artist and regional institution in producing a large-scale exhibition. The 2018 winner of this award will be announced this autumn.
