Lebanon’s Ministry of Culture has announced composer and artist Zad Moultaka will represent the country at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017.

Moultaka will present Sacrum, an ‘audiovisual environment’ curated by Emmanuel Daydé, and inspired by the prehistoric caves of Jeita (Lebanon) and Chauvet (France). Presenting his project, the artist said in a statement: ‘Within this universe that is losing its way on the shores of materialism and drowning on the surface of the visible, questioning the sacred in the very heart of Man: such is the dream and ambition of this Lebanese Pavilion.’

The 57th Venice Biennale runs from 13 May through 26 November 2017.

4 July 2016.
