The Gulf Labor Coalition, who is also an official participant in this year’s Venice Biennale, and the G.U.L.F. (Global Ultra Luxury Faction) joined forces in a series of protest actions to raise awareness about the labour conditions of migrant in the Gulf nations, and the situation faced by Palestinian workers in the West Bank, Hyperallergic reports.
The protest started on 2 August, when G.U.L.F. members stenciled ‘Handala’ on Gulf Labor’s official banner hanging inside the Arsenale exhibition hall, a symbol of the Palestinian Resistance created by the late Palestinian cartoonist Naji Salim al-Ali. They then joined a Gulf Labor panel on migration, at the end of which visitors were invited to join the artists and activists for a joint occupation of the Israeli pavilion, accompanied by a discussion of issues related to BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions), PACBI (Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel), and the lack of support from the art world.
