The Brazilian poet and artist Wlademir Dias-Pino has died, aged 91, reports Folha. Dias-Pino, who was born in Rio de Janeiro and whose family relocated to Cuiabá (Mato Grosso) in 1936 due to political persecution. In 1948, he founded the avant-garde literary movement Intensivismo, which later led to his participation in founding Poema / Processo (1967–72), a movement that encouraged non-linear readings of literature in defiance of the relationship between language and image. For this reason, Dias-Pino is widely considered to be the founder of Constructive Poetry. His work was shown at the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo in 2016, which included a series of billboards titled Outdoors (2015–16) installed at Ibirapuera Park and Brazilian Visual Encyclopedia (1970–2016) which was on view in the Bienal building.

Here’s a feature from 2016 on Wlademir Dias-Pino written by curator Fernanda Brenner, and you can read more about Poema / Processo in this feature from 2015, written by writer and curator Tobi Maier.
