Sam Thorne named director of Nottingham Contemporary

Nottingham Contemporary has announced that Sam Thorne, currently artistic director at Tate St Ives, will be taking over Alex Farquharson – recently named director of Tate Britain – as director of the gallery.

A curator and art critic, Thorne is also a visiting tutor at the Royal College of Art in London. In 2013 he co-founded Open School East, a free to attend art school in East London and his book School: Conversations on Self-Organised Art Education will be published in May next year. He is also a contributing editor at Frieze and has been a regular contributor to Bidoun, Tate ETC and Art Papers.
