Plans to turn Anish Kapoor’s ArcelorMittal Orbit Tower in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park into the ‘longest and tallest slide’ has been approved, BBC reports. The Turner Prize-winning artist has invited German artist Cartsen Höller, whose current retrospective at the Hayward also features monumental slides, to create a 178-metre long, 78-metre high, slide that will loop around the sculpture and observation tower, taking the visitors through a 40-second descent, for an additional £5 on top of the entrance fee.
Originally designed by Kapoor artist for the 2012 Olympics, the Orbit had been criticised as a vanity project as a result of its high production costs (£19.1m), which included £3.1 of tax payer’s money.
