Fake fakes go back on sale

Two ‘Monet’ paintings believed to have been painted by famous art forger Elmyr de Hory had to be removed from Auckland auctioneers Cordys, last month, when it was revealed that the two works In the Woods at Giverny and At Giverny, were in fact fakes themselves. 

However, following the realisation that there is a market in ‘fake fakes’, the paintings will still be going under the hammer, but now under the description ‘Fakes of fake Claude Monet and other intriguing and must view items’, The New Zealand Herald reports.
