A painting by Francis Bacon that might have been worth millions is estimated to sell at auction for a mere £20,000 – £30,000. The lost and unfinished nude known as Figure was discarded by the artist and presumably given to Tony O’Malley, a member of the St. Ives group of artists, who cut it in half and used both boards to paint on the back of. The two halves will be seen together for the first time in almost 60 years at Christie’s South Kensington. Francis Bacon’s Figure and Tony O’Malley’s Currach, Clare Island and Evening Landscape Tehidy Hospital will be sold as a single work. The auction takes place on 17 March 2016.
