Matthias Bruggmann receives 2017 Prix Elysée

Swiss photographer Matthias Bruggmann was announced as the winner of the second edition of the Prix Elysée at Nuit des Images 2017, Lausanne. 

Bruggmann, who was chosen from eight nominees (including Emeka Okereke, David Jiménez, Robert Zhao Renhui, Isabelle Blanc and Olivier Hilaire, Sofie Knijff, Jim Naughten and Elina Brotherus) by an international jury of experts, will be carrying out his proposal to further the photographic project he began in 2012 documenting the Syrian Civil War. Bruggmann receives CHF 80,000 (approx. £64,000) which will be split between completing the project and publishing the accompanying book in June 2018.
