Ma Yansong from Beijing firm MAD Architects will be designing the building and Jeanne Gang from Studio Gang Architects, designing the grounds and surrounding areas for Star Wars filmmaker George Lucas’s proposed new museum on Chicago’s lakeside, the Chicago Tribune reports. Chicago firm, VOA Architects will be executive architects on the project.

The subsequent designs for the museum – to be known as the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art (LMNA) and which will showcase works from Lucas’s collection of over 500,000 paintings and objects, including Star Wars memorabilia – will need to gain approval from the Chicago Plan Commission, and also counter possible legal opposition in relation to zoning laws governing public access to the proposed lakefront site.

The projected opening date for the museum is 2018.
