In the wake of accusations of sexual misconduct against American artist Chuck Close and Italian photographer Thomas Roma, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC has announced it will cancel both the artists’ shows, The New York Times reports. Close’s exhibition was scheduled to open in May, while Roma’s was planned for September.
Back in December, several women who had been asked to pose for the artist came forward claiming he had asked them to undress, and made unwelcome explicit comments. Close has denied the accusations, claiming he’d always been a ‘great supporter of women’.
Earlier this month, Roma retired from his post as professor of photography at New York’s Columbia University after five former students came forward with allegations of sexual harassment and assault.
