Born in Vienna, Hans Hollein studied architecture and urban planning in the US, training with both Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright, before establishing his own practice in Vienna, in 1964.

Alongside the Museum of Modern Art, Frankfurt and Vulcania, in France, Hollein’s projects also include Tehran’s Ceramic and Glass Museum, plus design projects including furniture, textiles and a collection of sunglasses. Hollein was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1985.
