New director announced for Kunsthall Trondheim

Stefanie Hessler has been appointed as the new director of Kunsthall Trondheim, Norway. She will take up the post on 15 September 2019.

Hessler is an international curator and writer (and a regular contributor to ArtReview). Since 2016, she has been the curator of Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, London, for whom she conceived among others the exhibitions Joan Jonas. Moving Off the Land II at Ocean Space in Venice (2019) and Armin Linke. Prospecting Ocean at the Institute of Marine Science in Venice (2018). Other recent curatorial projects include the 6th Athens Biennale (2018) and the symposium ‘Practices of Attention’ at the 33rd Bienal de São Paulo (2018). She has also edited books such as Life Itself (Moderna Museet and Koenig Books, 2016), Tidalectics. Imagining an Oceanic Worldview through Art and Science (MIT Press, 2018), and is currently writing the book Prospecting Ocean (MIT Press, forthcoming, 2019).

Hessler’s curatorial work explores interdisciplinary processes and collaborations across different fields of research. Commenting on her appointment she said: ‘Trondheim is a city known for its innovative research in science and technology, and this is an unprecedented opportunity to create ties between disciplines, with art and artists at the centre.’
