Maria Taniguchi has been awarded the Hugo Boss Asia Art Award for Emerging Asian Artists 2015. Curated by the Rockbund Art Museum, the ¥300,000 (approx. £31,000) award is presented every two years to an Asian artist in the early stages of their career. Taniguchi was selected from a shortlist of six, including Guan Xiao, Huang Po-Chih, Moe Satt, Vandy Rattana, and Yang Xinguang, whose works are on show at RAM through 3 January 2016.

Based in Manila, Philippines, Taniguchi works with painting, sculpture and video. She is represented by carlier | gebauer, Berlin and Silverlens, Singapore and Manila, and has exhibited internationally, including at Jorge Vargas Museum, Manila, Metropolitan Museum of Manila, Museum of Contemporary Art (M HKA), Antwerp, Osage Gallery, Hong Kong, and the Jewish Museum, New York
