FIAC’s satellite fair Officielle has been cancelled after only two editions, according to an email to the exhibitors sent by Jennifer Flay and Maxime Hourdequin of Reed Exhibitions, Artnet reports. Officielle functioned as an extension to the Paris fair, welcoming some 70 younger and emerging galleries at the Cite de la Mode et du Design, on the Seine’s docks.

“We have failed to create the conditions that could make such an event … an unconditional success,” Flay and Hourdequin write. The fair’s venue had been criticised since its inception in 2014 as being two far from the main fair, topped recently by new competition with the arrival in 2015 of Paris Internationale, a new off-fair established in an old hotel particulier at walking distance from the fair.

This is the third fair cancelled by art fair organisers Reed Exhibitions, who recently announced the discontinuation of Paris Photo Los Angeles after three editions, and the abortion of the planned FIAC LA (as ArtReview reported here).

26 February 2016.
