Moderna Museet, Sweden, has appointed Mats Stjernstedt as the curator of the next Nordic Pavilion, representing conjointly Finland, Norway and Sweden, at the 57th Venice Biennale, 2017. Stjernstedt is currently the artistic director of Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo, Norway and worked previously as the head of Index – the Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation, Stockholm in 2001-2009.
The three countries will be collaborating over the next three editions of the Venice Biennale (2017–2021), each appointing a national institution as commissioner and manager of the pavilion. Following Moderna Museet will be Frame Visual Art Finland for 2019, and the Office for Contemporary Art, Norway in 2021.
