Created to fund the acquisition of an artwork exhibited at Moving Image Istanbul art fair for The Borusan Contemporary Art Collection, the prize has been awarded for Brooklyn based artist Chris Doyle‘s work Waste_Generation (2011), on view at the fair through 28 September 2014.

Taking inspiration from Thomas Cole’s five-part painting series The Course of Empire (1833-36), which depicts the trajectory of a city and its surrounding landscape in stages of pastoral idyll, destruction and desolation, Waste_Generation is the second part of a larger project in which Doyle has reinterpreted Cole’s paintings for contemporary times.
