Yuko Hasegawa, chief curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, has been announced as the curator for the 7th Moscow Biennale, set to take place from 15 September – 28 October 2017, Russia Beyond the Headlines reports. The exhibition will be held at the Manezh exhibition hall adjacent to the Kremlin, as well as at various locations around the city.

Under the title Transcendental Forest, the biennial will take as a starting point the metaphorical place between the forest – which represents ‘people seeking their roots and new experiences’ – and the cloud – which stands for the Internet, the sphere ‘where people communicate, transform, and search for their identity’.

Born in Japan, Hasegawa has served as chief curator at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan (1999–2006) before joining the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. Over the years, she curated numerous largescale exhibitions including: the 7th International Istanbul Biennial (2001); the 11th Sharjah Biennale (2013); the 5th Shanghai Biennale (2002, cocurator); the 29th Bienal de Sāo Paulo (2010, cocurator).
