Winners of Rome Prize 2017–2018 announced

The winners of the annual Rome Prize, awarded by the American Academy in support to ‘advanced independent work in the arts and humanities within a unique residential community’, have been announced. In the visual arts category, they are: Allen Frame, Abigail Deville, Beverly Mciver, Sanford Biggers and Rochelle Feinstein. The selected artists and scholars will each receive a stipend ranging from $16,000 (£12,500) to $28,000 (£21,800), workspace and room and board for between six-months to two years depending on the nature of their work. 

The selection process was chaired by Holly Block (executive director of the Bronx Museum, NY), and the jury for the visual arts category of the prize comprised artists Lorna Simpson, Polly Apfelbaum and Josephine Meckseper. Winners were also selected for other categories including literature, music composition, architecture, landscape architecture, design, historic preservation and conservation, ancient, medieval, Renaissance and early Modern, and modern Italian studies.
