The Städel Museum, Frankfurt, has announced that art historian Dr. Philipp Demandt has been appointed director at the museum and at Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung. Demandt has been the director of the Alte Nationalgalerie since January 2012 and will assume the new role from 1 October 2016. His predecessor, Max Hollein, is now the director of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
