‘Select’ art patrons will get to see inside James Turrell’s Roden Crater – the artist’s major project to transform a extinct Arizona volcano into a light and space filled art installation observatory, over four days, 14-17 May, this year, as part of the latest fundraising initiative for the work, ArtNews has reported.

Up to 20 people per day will be able to visit, in exchange for a $5,000 (£3,200) donation to Turrell’s Skystone Foundation, the project’s non-profit organisation, plus overnight expenses of $1,500 (£970).

The ongoing project to transform the volcano, which began in 1979, is not currently open to the public, but regular fundraising visits are held.

Details of all fundraising initiatives can be obtained by emailing info@rodencrater.com. Info on how to become a friend of the project by making a donation and receiving regular updates can be found here.
