Art Basel announces artists for inaugural Cities initiative

Art Basel has announced the artists involved its inaugural Art Basel Cities initiative. Spread through three neighbourhoods in Buenos Aires, Hopscotch, the central exhibition in a wider programme, curated by Cecilia Alemani, will feature Eduardo Basualdo, Pia Camil, Maurizio Cattelan, Gabriel Chaile, Alex Da Corte, Santiago de Paoli, David Horvitz, Leandro Katz, Barbara Kruger, Luciana Lamothe, Ad Minoliti, Eduardo Navarro, Mika Rottenberg, Mariela Scafati, Vivian Suter and Stan VanDerBeek.

Having been approached frequently by city authorities internationally to stage fairs, Art Basel set up the Cities programme in which instead the muncipality pays the company to stage a non-selling art festival. As well as Alemani’s exhibition, there will be a talk series and partnerships with local organisations. Art Basel Cities Week: Buenos Aires takes place 6–12 September.
