Claire Doherty appointed director of Arnolfini

Claire Doherty has been appointed director of Arnolfini, the Bristol non-profit institution has announced. Doherty currently heads Situations, the public art commissioning organisation she founded in 2002. Recent commissions by the latter include projects by Theaster Gates, Michael Sailstorferr, Hew Locke and Alex Hartley. Doherty was previously curator at Ikon in Birmingham and FACT in Liverpool. In 2009, she was awarded a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Breakthrough Award. Doherty’s appointment follows the resignation of Kate Brindley last year, who left to take up a new post as director of collections and exhibitions at Chatsworth House.
