Chinese artist Cao Fei and American artist John Baldessari have been selected to each create a new BMW Art Car (BMW M6 GT3) in the coming year, which will then be presented in museums in 2017, while also having to prove themselves on the racetrack. Fei and Baldessari’s newly designed will be respectively the youngest and oldest artists represented in the collection, which includes cars by Alexander Calder, Frank Stella, David Hockney, Olafur Eliasson, and the most recent addition by Jeff Koons

They were selected by an international jury of museum directors and curators, including Chris Dercon (Tate Modern, London), Juan Gaitán (Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo in Mexico City), Beatrix Ruf (Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam), Philip Tinari (Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art in Beijing) and Adam D. Weinberg (Whitney Museum of American Art).
