The Jerwood Charitable Foundation has announced a call for applications to the Jerwood Makers Open 2019. The selectors for the 2019 edition are Rana Begum, artist; Grace Wales Bonner, fashion designer; Alun Graves, senior curator at the V&A; Tanya Harrod, writer and independent design historian and Sarah Williams, head of programme, Jerwood Visual Arts.

The foundation invites proposals from early-career makers, applied artists and designers who are based in the UK and are within 10 years of beginning their practice. Applications are welcome from makers working in a diverse range of materials including (but not limited to) glass, metal, wood, paper, textiles, ceramics, furniture and jewellery. The grants will be awarded based on makers that are hoping to realise current or new projects that will culminate in the production of a work that might not be possible without the support of the foundation.

Five makers will be selected by the panel and will each receive £8,000. The resulting work will be shown in a group exhibition at the Jerwood Space in London next summer, before touring across the UK.

The deadline for submissions is 5pm on 24 September 2018 – see here for details on how to apply.
