The College of Art in New Delhi has recently been the subject of student protests, rallying against the outdated curriculum, shortage of teaching staff and equipment, the lack of sanitation, and opacity in the way funds are used on the campus among other concerns, Art Asia Pacific reports. The protests started at the end of August with ten students staging a sit-in at the college to present their demands to the administration, and grew into over 200 participants in the past weeks, who marched to the Parliament building and the Chief Minister’s residence in New Delhi and ‘occupied’ the school with painting and graffiti on the building.
There has been no response or support from the faculty or administrative board, who have been avoiding any direct dialogue with the student, despite the active endorsement of local artists, curators and writers.
