Frieze Art Fair has announced the launch of a new fair in Los Angeles, in addition to its London and New York events. This first edition is scheduled to run 14–17 February 2019 at Paramount Pictures Studios, one of Hollywood’s historic studios, where architect Kulapat Yantrasast from wHY studio will design a temporary structure for the fair. In a statement, Frieze Art Fair’s director Victoria Siddall cited Los Angeles’s ‘thriving cultural scene’ as one of the decision factors, as well as the local connection with Frieze’s partner Endeavor (formerly WME | IM), the Hollywood sports and entertainment agency who bought major stakes in the company back in 2016.

Bettina Korek has been appointed as the fair’s executive director; she will work together with Siddall for that inaugural edition. Korek is a writer and the founder of For Your Art, an organisation supporting the production and presentation of artist projects, as well as fostering new forms of patronage in the arts. Featuring 60 participating galleries, Frieze LA will also include a programme of site-specific artist projects and films, run by Hammer Museum adjunct curator Ali Subotnick.
