Interview, the celebrated art, culture and fashion magazine founded by Andy Warhol, has filed for bankruptcy. Both the web and print editions of the magazine were closed with immediate effect on 20 May and staff told that they were being let go.
The magazine has recently been dogged by rumours of financial difficulties, as well as a string of lawsuits and the resignation of a fashion director accused of sexual misconduct. The ex-editorial director Francis Baron resigned from his position in April and proceeded to sue the magazine for $600,000 he claims are owed to him and his stylist wife, Ludivine Poiblanc, while staff were earlier in the year forced to relocate from their SoHo office over unpaid rent.
Founded by Warhol in 1969, Interview was renowned for its gossipy combination of art, fashion and New York high society. The publication is owned by art collector Peter Brant, who acquired the title in 1989. Brant also owns titles including Art in America.
