The Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art Foundation has announced that British architecture firm Adjaye Associates has been selected to design the new contemporary art museum in collaboration with Latvian architects AB3D, Dezeen reports. The building will be comprised of a group of flexible spaces allowing for smaller rooms for more intimate artworks and more expansive areas to accommodate large scale installations. The design of the museum aims to resonate with Latvia’s vernacular architecture in order to encourage participation from a wider local audience whilst remaining sensitive to the traditional architecture of the region.

Expected to cost £24 million to build, the foundation plans to open the museum on 18 November 2021 in the New Hanza City, Rīga.
