Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) has announced the first group of participants who will present work at the 9th Asia Pacific Triennial. There is expected to be a total of 80 artists, collectives and filmmakers from more than 30 countries participating in the triennial, as well as two projects involving more than 30 women artists from the Pacific – one of which is titled Women’s Wealth Project. In a statement, QAGOMA director Chris Saines has said ‘the Women’s Wealth Project developed out of a week-long workshop initiated by QAGOMA in Bougainville, and it highlights the significance and endurance of women’s creative practices in this locale, expressing a quiet but powerful resilience in the face of major historical and political change’ and that the project presented at Asia Pacific Triennial will ‘introduce audiences to the unique cultural and artistic practices of women artists from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) and nearby islands in the Solomon Islands archipelago’.

The triennial, which is free to visit, will include a cinema programme, public workshops, talks, a symposium and family oriented artist projects.

The 9th Asia Pacific Triennial will run from 24 November 2018 through 28 April 2019.
