2017 Future Generation Art Prize winners announced

Dineo Seshee Bopape is the recipient of the fourth edition of the Future Generation Art Prize, an award founded by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation dedicated to artists under 35. Bopape will receive a total of $100,000, including $60,000 as a cash award and $40,000 towards the production of a new work. Alongside Bopape’s award, artist Phoebe Boswell will receive $20,000, as the recipient of the Special Prize.

Both artists were selected by an international jury including: Nicholas Baume, director of the Public Art Fund, New York; Iwona Blazwick, director, Whitechapel Art Gallery, London; Björn Geldhof, artistic director, PinchukArtCentre, Kyiv and Yarat, Baku; Mami Kataoka, chief curator, Mori Art Museum, Tokyo and curator of the 2018 Biennale of Sydney; Koyo Kouoh, founding artistic director, Raw Material Company, Dakar; Jochen Volz, general director of Pinacoteca, São Paulo, Brazil; Jérôme Sans, cofounder, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, and artistic director, Perfect Crossovers, Paris-Beijing.

Bopape and Boswell’s work are on view alongside that of the other 21 artists shortlisted for the prize at the Pinchuk Art Centre through 16 April 2017.
