Shortlist announced for 2016 Jarman Award

Film London has announced a shortlist of the six artists who will be considered for the 2016 Jarman Award. The winner of the prize (which includes £10,000 as well as a Channel 4 commission for their Random Acts art strand) will be announced on Monday 28th November 2016. The Jarman Award aims to support ‘artists working with moving image, and celebrates [Derek Jarman’s] spirit of experimentation, imagination and innovation in the work of emerging artist filmmakers.

The shortlisted artists for the ninth edition of the Jarman award are:
Sophia Al Maria
Cécile B. Evans
Shona Illingworth
Mikhail Karikis
Rachel Maclean
Heather Phillipson

As with previous editions, the award will organise a touring programme showcasing the shortlisted artists’ works at major arts venues across the UK. The tour will end with a weekend of special screenings and performances at the Whitechapel Gallery on 19–20 November 2016. Details of the tour programme are yet to be announced.
