Hauser & Wirth has announced the construction of a new gallery building at 542 West 22nd Street, in the West Chelsea arts district of New York. This new space will be complementary to the already existing gallery in Manhattan, which will continue running until the expiration of its lease in 2017, and will fall under the continued direction of partner and vice president Marc Payot.
The new building will be designed by Annabelle Selldorf of Selldorf Architects, who has worked closely with the gallery since the 1990s on its spaces in Zurich, London, and New York City. Following the upcoming opening of Hauser Wirth & Schimmel arts centre scheduled to open in Los Angeles in January 2016, Hauser & Wirth 22nd street is estimated to open in 2018.
