Washington’s Corcoran Gallery of Art has had its plans to merge with the National Gallery of Art and George Washington University legally approved, against the lawsuit filed in opposition to the agreement.

A report in the LA Times states that the merger was deemed by the judge in the case to be the most practical solution for the Corcoran in order for it to overcome its financial difficulties, although the decision was a painful one. Much of the Corcoran’s art collection will now become part of the National Gallery of Art, with its art school becoming part of George Washington University.
