Tai Kwun – Centre for Heritage and Arts has announced that having received statutory permits and certificates, it will be moving ahead with the opening of its venue in three phases. Located at Hong Kong island’s former Central Police Station, Tai Kwun (which is made up of 15 historic buildings, the new art gallery – designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron – and auditorium buildings) is a revitalisation project led by The Hong Kong Jockey Club in partnership with Hong Kong’s government. With a site comprising 13,600 sqm, three declared monuments, historic buildings and outdoor spaces, Tai Kwun will be the largest heritage conservation and revitalisation project in Hong Kong. An opening ceremony is planned to take place on 25 May 2018, followed by a soft opening of the site which will allow a limited number of visitors in. Tai Kwun will shortly release details of the opening and forthcoming programme.
